Convensa and FCC Industrial have won the track and electrification contract for the Eastern Bypass of Valladolid, for an amount of 15 million euros and an execution period of 18 months. This contract is added to the one already executed by Convensa in said Eastern Freight Variant of the Valladolid Railway Arterial Network.

The project includes electrification through the installation of flexible catenary and the assembly of the variant track at the height of the Pinar de Antequera until its junction with the Madrid highway (Pinar de Jalón), allowing the circulation of both freight trains like travelers. The project also includes the definition of the track and the overhead contact line to serve the Logistics Services facilities, located inside the new railway complex. This action will contribute to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure), which has among its goals the development of reliable infrastructure.

The Eastern Variant of Valladolid, in conventional gauge, will provide continuity on a double track to the Madrid-Hendaya line, which will be used for freight traffic. Once in service, it will accommodate the passage of all freight trains, which represents 25% of the current rail traffic at the Valladolid-Campo Grande station. Measuring 17.5 kilometers in length, it is designed so that trains can run at a speed of 160 km/h. Among its structures, the Tramposos Viaduct (1.1 kilometers) and a 2.1 kilometer tunnel stand out. The Variant will allow access to the new Valladolid railway complex, where all the railway activities that are currently carried out in other centers of Valladolid will be located, with the exception of those linked to the passenger station: new Renfe workshop, service terminal logistics (replacing the La Esperanza and Argales facilities) and Redalsa.
