FCC Construcción Portugal and Convensa sign agreement to begin modernisation of Leixões railway line

The modernisation of the Leixões railway line, promoted by Infraestruturas de Portugal, covers a series of works aimed at improving railway operations, safety and infrastructure sustainability, such as: the remodelling of the set of entry and exit tracks at the Leixões terminal; the adaptation of the reserve tracks — which allow for temporary parking and the crossing of trains — at the Contumil and São Mamede de Infesta stations, ensuring the conditions for the operation of trains with a useful length of up to 750 metres; the improvement of the catenary along the entire length of the Leixões line; the remodelling of three existing telecommunications equipment rooms and the construction of a new technical building in Leixões; the installation of five new GSM-R telecommunications towers.

Also noteworthy are the works to reinforce the safety of local accesses and crossings on the Leixões line, with the removal of four level crossings and two pedestrian crossings.

These interventions are particularly important in strengthening rail and road safety, improving the mobility of the population and the efficiency of logistics operations associated with the Port of Leixões, and cover the municipalities of Porto, Gondomar, Maia and Matosinhos. This investment reinforces the role of the railway as a sustainable transport alternative, boosts the efficiency of goods entering and leaving the port of Leixões, and contributes to the country's economic and social development.

FCC Construcción, with more than 125 years of history in railway projects, continues to contribute to the development of infrastructure that improves the quality of life of the Portuguese people.
