Convensa wins the first section of the Burgos-Vitoria high-speed rail line

Convensa and Ferrovial have won the first section of the new Burgos-Vitoria high-speed rail line (LAV), between Pancorbo and Ameyugo (8.4 km), for €323 million.
The contract awarded comprises the construction of the platform on which the double-track standard gauge line will be laid in this intermediate section of the route as it passes through the province of Burgos. The project represents a new technical and engineering challenge, given that 77% of the 8.4 km section runs through a succession of three tunnels and three viaducts, which will allow the new line to be integrated respectfully into the environment and adapted to the other infrastructure it crosses, such as the A-1 motorway, which it crosses on two occasions.
Among the most notable structures on the route are the Pancorbo tunnel (4 km), through which the line crosses the Montes Obarenes, and the viaduct (1.1 km) which, immediately after the tunnel, passes over the motorway, the SC-BU-7 and the Arroyo de loa Llosa.
The Burgos-Vitoria high-speed line will connect the Basque Country to the high-speed network, the largest in Europe (4,000 km), and will improve its connections and journey times with the centre and the rest of the country, strengthening territorial cohesion and integration.
It also represents a significant step forward in the development of the Atlantic Corridor. The new line will extend the Madrid-Valladolid-Burgos high-speed line, not only to the Basque Country, where it will link up with the high-speed network currently under construction between the three Basque capitals, but also to the French border.
